DPM was contracted to be Project Manager for the removal and clean-up of the crane. This involved closely working with TIR, R&D crane, Harbourside engineering, and Department of Labor and Advanced Education, Insurance Companies, as well as working with the public to try to minimize disruption to the neighbouring businesses and residents as much as possible.
First the building had to be structurally stabilized to be safe for workers and engineers to be able to secure the damaged section of the crane to the structure. Once the damaged crane sections were secured a safe dismantling plan was drafted up for the safe removal of all the crane sections that were cut up into manageable pieces. Removal required the closer of three streets and setting up two 450 ton cranes and two smaller cranes to assist in removal. As pieces were removed, they were numbered and taken to a secure storage area for further inspection to determine the cause of the collapse.
